Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.
~ Ephesians 6:18 

The final piece of spiritual armor listed in Ephesians 6 that followers of Christ need to utilize may not seem like armor at all.

Prayer.

But remember, we’re being attacked by Satan (v 11), and we’re in the midst of a spiritual war (v 12), so prayer is super important. 

At camp there’s never a lack of things to pray for.

Staff meeting prayer requests are sure to include things like the weather, the need for sleep, a friend at home who lost a job, and the camper who broke his toe. Camper prayer request times can include almost anything from, Help me to stop sneezing to Pray for my hamster. 

Anyone who shares a prayer request is sharing something real and meaningful to him or her. So these things are all good and important to pray about. However, the things we pray about and our priorities in prayer should be informed by the Bible, not simply our own immediate circumstances. 

When Paul says, “Stay alert with all perseverance,” he’s referring back to all the other pieces of armor. Here’s what you should be praying about.

• That God helps you be held together by speaking truth to yourself throughout the day (v 14a)

• That the Spirit helps you remember your righteousness in Christ (v 14b)

• That you will leave gospel footprints around camp today (v 15)

• For help to use your shield of faith (v 16)

• That your thoughts and emotions would be protected by the knowledge of the saving grace of Jesus (v 17a)

• For spiritual insight as you read, study, and apply the sword of God’s word (v 17b) 

Notice also that Paul doesn’t expect you to just pray about these things for yourself. Our prayers should extend to all the saints.

You can’t fight this battle solo.

You need to share your struggles with others on staff, asking them to pray for you. And you should be praying earnestly for them.
